DIY and the Professional Plumber

This blog post is designed to help you know when your inner handyman can solve the problem; and what to look for and when a plumber is needed for their expertise.

Call a Plumber because of Inspections

Only a qualified plumber will be able to inspect your plumbing for being in good working condition. We offer an annual plumbing and safety inspection where we catch many small problems before they become urgent and expensive repairs. Leaks are generally the most common problem in the average home. Identifying the leak is the first step. Easily identified leaks are typically easy to fix with minimal experience.

Hot to Make Temporary Pipe Leak Repairs

You will need to find pipe clamps to seal the hole in the wall of the pipe. Then you use a coupler to replace the split or leaking pipe. Sometimes pipe wrap can be used. Everything can be bought for this temporary fix at your local hardware store. It is when you have multiple leaks or are unable to find the leak when serious damage can occur; this is when your plumber should come and fix the problem for you. We recommend that you at this point shut off you water supply to the affected area, dry with towels and give us a call.

Replacing basic parts of your system can be buying a fitting at your hardware store. This is typically knobs, handles, clamps; replacing pipes is a much different story and you need the experience and training of a plumbing professional. It is the complexity of the situation and your comfort level that decides ultimately, but knowing that the job will be done professionally, correctly and with some seal of warranty on workmanship can be headache remover in the long run.
